ASK AN EXPERT

Question

“I’ve attended most of the corporate training courses available, including time management, negotiation skills etc. Are there any courses on offer where I’ll be learning new valuable skills?”

Answer

I think a decent course in Ichibana might do the trick. Not! All training should be linked to organisational goals, so it’s hard for me to answer that question without knowing where your company is heading. However, I can share with you what is popular at the moment.'

Story Telling

This course looks at creating and delivering stories as a better way to communicate. Fact and figures don’t stick, but a story resonates and is easier to remember.

This tool is particularly useful in change management and humanises the speaker and the issues. As Anthony de Mello once said, “ You have to understand, my dears, that the shortest distance between truth and a human being is a story.”

Networking Skills

Recently, people have realised that it is the middle management that does a lot of the selling in a company. And building relationships and trust are essential, especially in Asia, to securing a deal. We all attend networking events and stand around with a glass in our hands talking about the latest taxi ride we had.

That is not building a relationship! Networking is about letting people know what you, not your company, can offer them. This course explores the technique of rapport building and how body language is a whopping 58 per cent of all our face-to-face communications.

All our courses at Maura Fay Workshops are highly participatory and we have never had a case of Economy Class Syndrome in one of our programs. We believe in that old chestnut by Confucius. “
